Review Septemeber: OwlCrate

I finally got my hands on an OwlCrate and I think I might cry. In Feb/March of this year, I saw a comment from @owlcrate on one of my posts on Instagram and instantly fell in love with their business... No, I mean it. If you follow me on Instagram (or any social media, really) you'll know how much I adore this business. I think that it's a great idea, and not only that, but the team behind OwlCrate are absolutely wonderful people. Whenever I get the chance to post about OwlCrate, I certainly will and do.

Now! On to the box I received. September's box had a theme of "Leading Ladies", which I thought was a great theme. My birthday is in September, so I felt like this kind of box would probably be filled with things that I'd love... I was definitely right!

The book that was included in the September OwlCrate was Dumplin' by Julie Murphy, a book I'd actually heard a lot of mixed reviews about so I was excited to get my very own hardcover copy to tackle myself. The synopsis is:
Self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean Dickson (dubbed “Dumplin’” by her former beauty queen mom) has always been at home in her own skin. Her thoughts on having the ultimate bikini body? Put a bikini on your body. With her all-American beauty best friend, Ellen, by her side, things have always worked…until Will takes a job at Harpy’s, the local fast-food joint. There she meets Private School Bo, a hot former jock. Will isn’t surprised to find herself attracted to Bo. But she is surprised when he seems to like her back.

Instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Clover City beauty pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does. Along the way, she’ll shock the hell out of Clover City—and maybe herself most of all.

With starry Texas nights, red candy suckers, Dolly Parton songs, and a wildly unforgettable heroine—Dumplin’ is guaranteed to steal your heart.

I'm very excited to finish this body positive and very entertaining book, it'll hopefully be my synopsis Saturday for this week! Also included, but not photographed, was a letter to OwlCrate subscribers from the author and a Dumplin' sticker!

The following item was very top heavy and absolutely refused to stand up on her own, but she might be my favourite item regardless. A Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons keychain (sorry, I absolutely couldn't resist the idea of writing her entire name...) This thing is adorable, and will soon be added to my keys. I think it's safe to say that most bookworms are in love with Funko Pops, so this was a great addition to the box, I especially loved it since Daenerys is my favourite Game of Thrones character!

Next up, we had these amazing Hermione Granger prints from Megan Lara! These are stunning pieces of art starring our favourite (and brightest) witch, I'm told that they're created using a very high quality photo paper which means it'll last up to two-hundred years without fading! One the back of the right print was a coupon for the business Meow Box, which is a subscription service for cats (how freaking adorable is that?!?!?!) if only I lived with a cat of my own, I'd definitely have to be a subscriber! These prints will be in a frame and on my bookshelf in no time.

Then I found this beautiful arrow necklace from Crystal Compass, and it was suggested by OwlCrate that they'd be great to wear for the opening night of Mockingjay: Part Two and I think that I'll be wearing mine! The necklace was super heavy with a very sturdy chain, something I was extremely happy about as so many of my fandom themed necklaces have snapped very easily.

And last, but not least, was a tote bag from the wonderful Whoviandrea (who I love, by the way!) -- I have to apologise for the not so flattering photo, but it was very windy so laying it down on the branch was all I could do (sigh). The tote itself is very soft and I think will be able to cope with a fair few books inside. This might have to be the tote I shove into my handbag for unplanned big spends at the bookstore.

I seriously cannot recommend OwlCrate enough, it is one of my absolute favourite subscription boxes. Next month's theme is "Spooky" and because Halloween is my favourite holiday, I'm super excited to see what's in that box! If you're interested in signing up for the October box, you shouldn't wait, there aren't many left and the cut off for placing an order for October is almost here!
